As the feature list of Adobe Photoshop continues to grow, even users with years of experience can feel overwhelmed by the many tools and methods for selecting or isolating parts of an image. Layers, channels, paths, clipping masks, layer masks, vector masks, the Pen tool, Magic Wand, and so on — all let users work on specific regions of an image, but in fundamentally different ways. Making clean, efficient selections are essential skills for any Photoshop user, whether a graphic designer, professional photographer,
or hobbyist.
Graphic designer, teacher, and Photoshop expert Nigel French saves you hours of frustration by illuminating the best selection tools and techniques for specific tasks, and the most flexible approaches to correcting and editing images in Photoshop. Using step-by-step examples, this book clarifies often-misunderstood selection methods, shows which masks best select a range of tone or color, and demonstrates how the right tools and techniques can help transform even the most mediocre picture into a polished image, saving you hours of time.
• Learn the fundamentals of making selections, and when to choose which method
• Blend images and replace backgrounds using layer, vector, and channel masks
• Correct color and exposure using adjustment layers
• Make next-to-impossible hair selections with channel masks
• Create a non-destructive workflow, giving you total creative freedom.

Increase BROADBAND speed
this ones simple:
this is for broad band connections. I didn’t try it on dial up but might work for dial up.
1.make sure your logged on as actually "Administrator". do not log on with any account that just has administrator privileges.
2. start - run - type gpedit.msc
3. expand the "local computer policy" branch
4. expand the "administrative templates" branch
5. expand the "network branch"
6. Highlight the "QoS Packet Scheduler" in left window
7. in right window double click the "limit reservable bandwidth" setting
8. on setting tab check the "enabled" item
9. where it says "Bandwidth limit %" change it to read 0
reboot if you want to but not necessary on some systems your all done. Effect is immediate on some systems. some need re-boot. I have one machine that needs to reboot first, the others didn't. Don't know why this is.
This is more of a "counter what XP does" thing. In other words, XP seems to want to reserve 20% of the bandwidth for its self. Even with QoS disabled, even when this item is disabled. So why not use it to your advantage. To demonstrate the problem with this on stand alone machines start up a big download from a server with an FTP client. Try to find a server that doesn't max out your bandwidth. In this case you want a slow to medium speed server to demonstrate this. Let it run for a couple of minutes to get stable. The start up another download from the same server with another instance of your FTP client. You will notice that the available bandwidth is now being fought over and one of the clients download will be very slow or both will slow down when they should both be using the available bandwidth. Using this "tweak" both clients will have a fair share of the bandwidth and will not fight over the bandwidth.

REGISTRY HACKS TO MAKE XP WORK FASTER
Here are some good tricks making your Xp running smooth:
Maximization of internet bandwidth
1. Log off first.
2. Login again as Administrator
3. Start > Run > gpedit.msc
4. Computer Configuration > Administrative Templates > Network > QoS Packet Scheduler
5. Limit Reservable Bandwidth > Enable > Value set to 0 > Apply
Maximization of internet surfing speed
HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE/Software/M'zoft/Windows/CurrentVersion/Explorer/RemoteComputer/NameSpace
Delete the below value key:
{D6277990-4C6A-11CF-8D87-00AA0060F5BF}
Register your WinXP:
HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\M'zoft\Windows NT\CurrentVersion]
Set the value of "RegDone" = 1
Shutdown XP Faster
When a user shuts down Windows XP, first the system has to kill all services
currently running. Every once in a while the service does not shut down
instantly and windows gives it a change to shut down on its own before it kills it.
This amount of time that windows waits is stored in the system registry.
If you modify this setting, then windows will kill the service earlier. To modify
the setting, follow the directions below:
Start Regedit.
Navigate to HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE/SYSTEM/CurrentControlSet/Control.
Click on the "Control" Folder.
Select "WaitToKillServiceTimeout"
Right click on it and select Modify.
Set it a value lower than 2000 (Mine is set to 200).
Shutdown XP faster 2
Like previous versions of windows, it takes long time to restart or shutdown windows xp
when the "Exit Windows" sound is enabled. to solve this problem you must disable
this useless sound.
click start button then go to settings -> control panel -> Sound,
Speech and Audio devices -> Sounds and Audio Devices -> Sounds,
then under program events and windows menu click on "Exit Windows" sub-menu and highlight it.
now from sounds you can select, choose "none" and then click apply and ok.
now you can see some improvements when shutting down your system.
Accelerate the response time of menu:
HKEY_CURRENT_USER\Control Panel\Desktop
Set the value of MenuShowDelay to 0 (Default 400)
Hope they are usefull

How to host a website truely anon on your computer
Introduction
In case you don't know about Tor yet, which is pretty unlikely but still I have to assume you don't, otherwise there is no point in writing this...
Tor is the only software (besides i2p) that allows truely anonymous websurfing(not pseudoanonymous like using public http proxies). It is a cascade router mix makes you a ghost on the internet. Untrackable. It is open source free software and funded by the electronic frontier foundation.
You are saying that is not possible because every computer has an IP? Yes it is possible using the onion routing technology where every computer only knows its immediate neighbours. Everything is AES 256 bit encrypted and the onion skin encryption is not breakable with computing power available today. It would take many million years to find out who you are. So much for the technology. You better read up on the Tor home page(no point in repeating here what they already brilliantly explained)! Anyway, Tor does not only allow you to surf anonymously but also to make other TCP/IP based applications anonymous. You can find a guide here:
http://wiki.noreply.org/wiki/TheOnionRouter/TorifyHOWTO
For example, you can make IRC chat, ftp servers, etc anonymous(i mean really _truely_ anonymous not pseudoanonymous like using a public proxy that might log the connections)!!!!!! The Tor documentation is excellent and non-technical people can read is with ease!!
Read the overview of Tor here:
http://tor.eff.org/overview.html.en
Host a website truely anonymously on your computer But the best and greatest thing in my opinion is that you can actually host a website(with mysql, php) anonymously on your computer with an address that doesn't change!!!!!! Most Tor users don't even know about this! Anonymous and easy to find. There is nothing similar on the net!!! And best of all it is extremely simple!!! The Tor network is like an internet withing the internet. Everything withing it is not traceable and eavesdroppable(mix/onion-routed and all connections encrypted). The usual picture of the internet in technical diagrams is a cloud. Imagine another cloud in that cloud which represents the Tor network. The Tornetwork has exit nodes through which you can conntect to the "outer" unsafe internet. From the exit nodes (edge of the inner Tor-cloud) to public homepages (on the outer normal-internet-cloud) like the projectw.org board connections are not encrypted. So it would be a great idea to host all warez sites INSIDE the Tor network where nobody can find out who anybody is.
http://tor.eff.org/docs/tor-hidden-service.html.en
A typical Tor website address would look something like this
http://kllas8osd89f7s90s.onion/board/
(I made up this link it won't work but that is what it looks like). What does this mean for you and your friends? You can actually host a website and nobody can find out who you are. You are anonymous to the visitors of your homepage. And you have no way of finding out who your visitors are.

UNDERSTANDING RELATIONSHIPS IN WINDOWS
"Dear Tech Support Team:
Last year I upgraded from Girlfriend 5.0 to Wife 1.0.
I soon noticed that the new program began unexpected child-processes that
took up a lot of space and valuable resources. In addition, Wife 1.0 installed itself into all other programs and now monitors all other system activities.
Applications such as BachelorNights 10.3, Cricket 5.0, BeerWithBuddies 7.5,
and Outings 3.6 no longer runs, crashing the system whenever selected. I
can't seem to keep Wife 1.0 in the background while attempting to run
my favorite applications.
I'm thinking about going back to Girlfriend 5.0 , but the 'uninstall'
doesn't work on Wife 1.0.
Please help!"
Thanks,

Dear Troubled User:
This is a very common problem that people complain about.
Many people upgrade from Girlfriend 5.0 to Wife 1.0, thinking that it is
just a Utilities and Entertainment program.
>>> Wife 1.0 is an OPERATING SYSTEM and is designed by its Creator to run
EVERYTHING!!! <<<
It is also impossible to delete Wife 1.0 and to return to Girlfriend 5.0.
It is impossible to uninstall, or purge the program files from the system
once installed.
You cannot go back to Girlfriend 5.0 because Wife 1.0 is designed not to
allow this. (Look in your Wife 1.0 Manual under Warnings-Alimony-Child
Support) .
I recommend that you keep Wife1.0 and work on improving the environment.
I suggest installing the background application "Yes Dear" to alleviate
software augmentation.
The best course of action is to enter the command C:\APOLOGIZE because
ultimately you will have to give the APOLOGIZE command before the system
will return to normal anyway.
Wife 1.0 is a great program, but it tends to be very high maintenance. Wife
1.0 comes with several support programs, such as Clean 2.5, Sweep 3.0, Cook 1.5 and DoLaundry 4.2. However, be very careful how you use these
programs. Improper use will cause the system to launch the program NagNag
9.5 .
Once this happens, the only way to improve the performance of Wife 1.0 is to purchase additional software. I recommend
Sarees 2.1 and Jewellery 5.0
STATUTORY WARNING : DO NOT, under any circumstances, install
SecretaryWithShortSkirt 3.3. This application is not supported by Wife 1.0
and will cause irreversible damage to the operating system.
Best of luck,
Tech Support ...

HOW TO DISABLE A STOLEN MOBILE PHONE?
To check your mobile phone's serial number, key in the following digits on your phone:
* # 0 6 # ( Without spaces )
A 15 digit code will appear on the screen. This number is unique to your handset. Write it down and keep it somewhere safe.Should your phone get stolen, you can phone your service provider and give them this code. They will then be able to block your handset so even if the thief changes the SIM card your phone will be totally useless. You probably won't get your phone back, but at least you know that whoever stole it can't use/sell it either. If everybody does this, there would be no point in people stealing mobile phones.
Please spread this useful information around.

how to make invisible folders
First create a new folder somewhere on your hard drive
when you name it hold down "Alt" and press "0160" this will create an invisible space so it will apper as if it has no name. Then right click and select "Properties". Select the tab "coustimize" and select "change icon". Scroll along and you should see a few blank spaces. Click on any one and click ok.But
remember Alt+0160 the numbers 0160 should be typed in numpad with numlock on then it works...It inserts a special character similar to space and a folder named "con,prn,com1,com2",etc the reserved names in windows are created.

Hide and lock any drive(s) using regedit
You can hide any of drive(s) by just adding two keys in windows registry
goto start>run
Type regedit and press enter. This will bring you to the registry editor. To hide any drive you have to follow these 2 steps
STEP1: Hidding Drive
goto HKEY_CURRENT_USER\Software\Microsoft\Windows\CurrentVersion\Policies\Explorer now create a new DWORD value NoDrives and set its value as
2^(Alpha Number of Drive Letter-1)
where Alpha number are simple counting of alphabets from A to Z as 1 - 26
for example: to hide C drive
Alpha number of C is 3 so 2^(3-1) = 4 (decimal value)
If you want to hide more than one drive than calculate the value of each drive as explained and then set sum of those numbers as value
Step2: Prevent Access to the drive
Now as we have make our drive invisbble but it is still accesible so to lock the drive we will create another DWORD value at
HKEY_CURRENT_USER\Software\Microsoft\Windows\Curre ntVersion\Policies\Explorer
create a new DWORD value NoViewOnDrive and set its value same as you have calculated for hidding the drive(s)
Now your drive is locked. If you want to unlock and unhidden the drive then just delete these two keys and your drive is again accessible. You can also create two .reg files one for hidding and locking and another one for unlocking and unhidding
